Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park is a beautiful place in northern Tanzania and is the closest national park to the city of Arusha. It is perfect for nature lovers. The park has many different landscapes, including the impressive Mount Meru and the lovely Momela Lakes. Other highlights include the Ngurdoto Crater and the lush highland forest on the lower slopes, making this small park a top destination.

In addition to enjoying game viewing at Momela Lakes, Arusha National Park offers many activities for everyone. If you prefer a slow pace, you can walk through the forest and might see rare colobus monkeys playing in the trees. For those looking for a challenge, you can climb Mount Meru or take walking safaris along the lower slopes. The three- or multi-day trek to Mount Meru’s summit is a quieter and more challenging option compared to climbing the famous Uhuru peak on Mount Kilimanjaro. There are also paths leading to rivers and waterfalls for visitors who want an easier hiking experience.

The main attractions in Arusha National Park are:

  1. The old fig tree forests
  2. Clear waters flowing from mountain streams
  3. Opportunities to see colobus monkeys

While elephants are rarely seen in the park, you might spot leopards and spotted hyenas early in the morning or late in the evening. When the clouds clear at sunrise or sunset, you can see the gorgeous snow-capped peaks of Kilimanjaro, which is about 50 km (30 miles) away.
